Meet Your Chapter Leaders

Pittsburgh Chapter Leader Annie White

Annie (McNamara) White '10, '11

Lives in: Robinson, Pennsylvania

Major: Elementary Education and Human Development

Occupation: Senior Research Associate at the Fred Rogers Center

Favorite BC Memory: One of my most vivid memories is running to the Mods to celebrate an Eagles win after Matt Ryan scored two touchdowns in the last three minutes of the game beating Virginia Tech in 2007!

Why did you get involved in your local chapter?: I got involved with the alumni chapter after moving from Boston to Pittsburgh as a way to stay connected with the BC community. I had a great experience at BC and I have enjoyed getting to know others in the area with BC roots.

What are your local favorites in your city?: I didn’t grow up in Pittsburgh so I’ve loved getting to know and explore this city! There are so many great restaurants around town (Federal Galley in the Northside is one of my favorites). The surrounding area is beautiful too and I've had fun hiking and skiing in the Laurel Highlands.

  • Exploring the Journey of Military Families
    27 March 2025 at 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm ET
Join the Boston College Veterans Alumni Network for a special presentation on the unique experiences, challenges, and triumphs of being a member of a military family. Dr. Julie Canfield will highlight some of the significant experiences that are unique to military families including how different family members experience the transition into and out of the military culture in distinct ways. Our all-volunteer military families experience incredible stresses through peace and war unlike those experienced by the greater civilian population including the ever-present threat to families during wartime service. Learn some of the ways in which military families adjust and adapt to these experiences and thrive in the midst of them. Julie Canfield, Ph.D., LICSW, is a clinical instructor in the BC School of Social Work and a licensed clinical social worker in private practice in the Boston area where she specializes in providing behavioral healthcare to service members, veterans, spouses, partners, military children and families impacted by military service. She has been a strong military advocate on campus for student veteran success in higher education and recently authored and published a book on resilience in military family life. Deadline for registration is Friday, March 21, 2025. Questions? Please email bcvets@bc.edu.
